Music Marketing

For my music marking project, we were given R&B/Rap.

It was hard to chose, but in the end, we chose C’mon Talk by Jarle Bernhoft. The process for choosing the song was hard because we were trying to choose the best song for whatever music video we wanted to create. Thus, our decision to make a promotional/artistic music video made us choose that song. Moreover, we went back to the music video and created a story board. Matching the lyrics, I created a storyboard for a promotional video. The artistic aspect would be added through the editing. Although my drawings aren’t perfect, I created the storyboard with the knowledge of the setting. To make it easier for the editor, many of the shots would be contrasting the lighting. For example, a shot facing the opposite way of the sun. And another shot was with the headlights of a car in the background. The storyboard was fairly easy to create, as it was only a promotional and artistic music video.

Storyboard

Afterwards, we researched the genre. To begin with, I first researched what management company to pick. It was best to pick a management that has a history with R&B and Rap artists. After much research, we ended up researching artists from RCA Records and Atlantic Records. From Atlantic Records, the members in my group researched Lil Uzi Vert and Kodak Black. From RCA records, I researched Doja Cat and the other group member researched SZA. It wasn’t challenging to research Doja Cat, as she’s a very popular artist. However, what was challenging was finding marketing strategies that were available for a new artist. Many of her strategies were collaborating with brands and other artists. But how would a brand new artist have access to that? However, it wouldn’t have been any better to research a new artist because then there would’ve been barely any information.

The next thing to do is organize and gather all of our research and put it into a presentation. This way, all of our marketing strategies can be presented. Moreover, we need to film and edit our music video as well. I will be making the presentation, while my other group members film and edit the video. We originally planned to finish the story board and research chart by 1/19. Then, we would move onto the presentation and work on it in class. However, one of the group members delayed. So now, this week we've been working on the storyboard and the presentation. We decided to work on it on PowerPoint; however, Canva would've made it much easier and more abstract with the design of the presentation. It also would've made it more engaging.
